Holly Road Townhouses is the earthquake repair and recladding of existing townhouses – the interiors have remained largely unchanged but the exterior has been completely transformed by the new richly textured façade.

The six townhouses were originally built in the 1990’s with a monolithic plaster cladding. The repair and refurbishment project was driven by the client’s desire to minimise the disruption, mess and disposal of waste during construction work and to use more robust materials that would reduce long-term maintenance and extend the life of the townhouses.

This approach meant the original scale and rhythm of the existing gables was retained. The careful use of materials, copper and dark stained cedar weatherboards, provides more articulation of the form to create a new sense of identity for individual units and greatly enhance the overall character of the street. At night new lighting creates a welcoming presence on the street.
