This single level, 3 bedroom house, was designed to suit the requirements of ‘empty nesters’ or a potential young family. The site is located on a leafy Fendalton street, in a flood plane, requiring the house to sit over half metre off ground level.
Consisting of a pair of simple gabled spaces, the forms are contextually appropriate to the surrounding weatherboard, homesteads, bungalows, and newer contemporary homes of the area.
The larger gable contains the shared living spaces; den/bedroom, scullery, kitchen, dining, living, outdoor living - all stacked towards the street in order of privacy requirements. The smaller gable holds, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a laundry.
An entry gallery connects the two forms and opens to the outside at both ends.
This is adjoined by a recessive, flat roofed garage.
The architecture attempts to articulate the simple packaging of spaces and forms.
The flat roofed entry/ gallery is expressed internally with dark stained, dressed cedar lining. The overall affect has created a coherent collection of simple shapes, and legible spaces.
