Set on a steep, wedge shaped site adjoining a cliff, busy hairpin corner and two private lanes– the client saw an opportunity to add value to a long-undeveloped piece of land by building their own unique take on a Scarborough beach house.
With limited opportunities available to build at ground level, vehicle access has been provided via a multi-purpose forecourt of timber boardwalks and landscaped edges – allowing this to double as a sheltered Easterly living space during the hot Canterbury Nor-west wind.
Once inside, the first floor living spaces open to outdoor terraces on three elevations that have been elevated and cantilevered out beyond the edge of the cliff to allow for unimpeded ‘prospecting’ of the waves and village below, this cantilevered first floor form shelters and protects the more private bedroom spaces tucked beneath.
